Student Journey

Daily morning classes in the following subjects:
Group project sessions where students work with a mentor in a subject area of their choice throughout the period of the program. These sessions will be an opportunity for students to develop their problem-solving skills, learn the essence of scientific research, and collaborate with their peers to come out with a project in a field that they are interested in.
Throughout the program students will partake in various enrichment activities that broaden their perspectives and strengthen their academic and personal development.
Distinguished Speakers Series:
STEPs students engage with leading figures in science, mathematics, business and the humanities, including Nobel laureates, renowned researchers and influential innovators. These talks offer insight into emerging opportunities, global challenges and cutting-edge developments across STEM fields, inspiring students to think ambitiously about their future paths.
University Preparation and Professional Development Lecture Series:
This lecture series equips students to make informed decisions about their future fields of study and prepares them for admission to top universities worldwide. Scholars gain guidance on the university application process, learn about KAUST’s scholarship opportunities for advanced degrees and explore career trajectories in STEM.
Students also receive practical advice on sustaining their engagement in STEM during their remaining years of school and university. Speakers highlight opportunities to participate in national and international competitions, poster sessions and conferences. These experiences strengthen written and oral communication, foster academic discipline and provide a valuable early taste of independent learning.
Enrichment and Extracurricular Activities:
Beyond academics, students enjoy a well-rounded program of activities, from sports to educational and social events such as scavenger hunts and talent showcases. These activities help scholars forge friendships, develop teamwork and leadership skills and enjoy a balanced and enriching summer experience at KAUST.
STEPs Alumni remarks
Stepping into the university-level environment of KAUST Academy fostered a deep sense of academic responsibility and independent growth. Working alongside brilliant peers taught me accountability and leadership. Building our marine robotics prototype provided invaluable hands-on experience in systems integration and teamwork, igniting my passion for oceanographic technology and preparing me for future scholarly endeavors.
Zainab AlShowaiheen

My experience in the KAUST Academy STEPS Summer Program was both challenging and rewarding. It gave me the opportunity to apply my interests in programming, engineering, and problem solving to a real project while working closely with others. Through developing my project Karduino, I gained more hands on experience with Arduino, robotics, app development, testing, and teamwork. The program helped me grow technically and gave me a clearer idea of the kind of engineering work I want to pursue.
Ameer AlMunian

Some experiences leave you with knowledge; others leave you with a new perspective. STEPs gave me both. At KAUST, I had the opportunity to explore quantum physics through our research on Bloch oscillations while stepping outside my comfort zone and growing in ways beyond the classroom. I learned from so many passionate people who inspired me to keep pushing myself and strive to do better. Most importantly, I met people I know I’ll carry with me forever. Ending these six weeks with a medal around my neck made the experience even more meaningful.
