KAUST Mathematics Competition

The KAUST Mathematics Competition is a national competition in mathematics organized by King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). It targets students in Grades 8 to 11, both Saudi Nationals and Saudi Residents, studying in schools across the Kingdom.

The competition aims to develop higher-order thinking skills, foster a passion for mathematics, and provide an excellent academic platform for talented students.

What is the KAUST Math Competition (KMC)?

The KAUST Math Competition is a national mathematics competition organized by King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). It targets students in Grades 8–11, both Saudi Nationals and Saudi Residents, studying in schools across the Kingdom. The competition aims to develop higher-order thinking skills, foster a love for mathematics, and provide an excellent academic platform for talented students.

Who can participate?

The competition is open to all students in Grades 8–11 (Saudi Nationals & Saudi Residents) from schools within the Kingdom.

How can students register for the competition?

Registration is done online via the competition website or the KAUST Academy page.

  • Students must complete the registration form and pay the participation fee.
  • Important: A student’s registration will be complete only after full payment of the fees.
How much is the participation fee?

The participation fee is 100 SAR per student.

What are the stages of the competition?
  • Stage 1 (Elimination Round): Held in-person. Competition centers will open in all 16 educational administrations in addition to King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (Thuwal) based on the registration numbers.
  • Stage 2 (Final Round): Held at KAUST over 3 days, with the top 200 students
    from Stage 1 (100 Junior Track + 100 Senior Track).
What is the format of the questions?
  • Stage 1 – Junior Track (Grades 8–9): 24 multiple-choice questions
  • Stage 1 – Senior Track (Grades 10–11): 30 multiple-choice questions
  • Stage 2 – Final Round (both tracks): 6 written-response questions
  • All questions are presented in both Arabic and English.
Are sample questions available?

Yes, sample questions will be posted on the competition page on the KAUST Academy website.

Are students responsible for the costs of the final stage?

No. KAUST will cover all costs for students selected for the final stage, including:

  • Domestic airfare
  • Transportation
  • Accommodation at KAUST
  • Meals during the competition days
What are the tracks of the competition?

The competition has two main tracks to ensure fair competition among different age groups:

  • Junior Track: Grades 8–9
  • Senior Track: Grades 10–11
What are the prizes and awards for winners?
  • Cash prizes recognizing outstanding achievement.
  • Complimentary participation in KAUST Academy academic programs.
  • The first-place winner in each track (Junior and Senior) will receive an exclusive opportunity to attend a summer training camp at Oxford or Cambridge University in the UK.
